"Si la statuaire bulul doit se conformer aux canons admis par la communauté, elle témoigne parfois remarquablement, comme ici, du talent individuel du sculpteur, capable “d’imprégner la sculpture d’une présence ou d’un pouvoir émotif”[1]. A la beauté idéalisée, empreinte de naturalisme, répondent la prégnance du visage aux yeux incrustés de fragments de coquillages, et le raffinement des détails anatomiques. Choisie par Feldman pour illustrer, dans The Eloquent Dead (1985), les chefs-d’œuvre de la statuaire Ifugao, cette statue porte à son paroxysme les notions conjuguées de force et d’intériorité.
